I was born in Cebu, Philippines. My parents are Jose Antonio (Pitoy) Ozaraga Borromeo and Sela Quijano Borromeo. I lived as a child in Oroquieta City, Philippines. At 7 years old my parents immigrated to the United States after my grandfather (Judge Crispin Pulaire Borromeo) died.
We lived with my grandparents (on my mom's side) for a short time in Salisbury, North Carolina, and moved to Richmond, Virginia. I attended elementary at Bethlehem Elementary on Bethlehem Rd, I believe the name has changed since then, but the school is still there on Bethlehem Rd. We first lived in a two-bedroom apartment with my parents, brother and sister. About two years later we moved into a house. My sister, Martonette, worked delivering newspapers, and after she stopped delivering, I decided to deliver newspapers as well. This was during the time when I attended middle school at Tuckahoe Middle School. I remember during the winter my dad would help and drive us, but during the spring I was able to ride my huffy bicycle and deliver newspapers. My parents later moved to Texas, while I was still in middle school. When I was 22 years old my grandfather, Lolo Gedeon, (Governor Gedeon G. Quijano) died while staying in the Philippines. I’ve always known my grandfather was a doctor when we arrived to the US, but I did not know his political past until he passed away. I believe my parents wanted us to live a normal life and not talk about their parents or past. It must have been difficult for my parents to live up to the expectations. My parents story is somewhat of a Romeo and Juliet story that is amazing.
When my grandfather passed away our family went to the Philippines and it was then I was introduced to my wife, Maria Stella Tonggao Borromeo. After 2 weeks of being introduced, we married. We have two wonderful kids, Steony Drake Borromeo and Marjoe Anthony T. Borromeo II, a girl and a boy. Both our children has served in the United States military. Over the years I’ve learned that family, faith, and country is important in my life. I love it here in United States. I will always have Oroquieta City and Cebu in me, it is where I found my family, and it is where my ancestral roots come from.
